Claim rewards

Guide to claiming ETH validator rewards from Consensus and Execution Layers, with tips on secure withdraw address management.

ETH Validator rewards are divided into two categories:

  1. Consensus Layer (CL) Rewards These rewards are earned through participation in the Ethereum Proof-of-Stake consensus protocol and come from two primary sources:
  • Block Proposal Rewards: Received for proposing a new block.
  • Attestation Rewards: Earned for confirming and validating blocks proposed by other validators.

Rewards from the Consensus Layer are automatically sent to the withdrawal address without requiring user intervention.

  1. Execution Layer (EL) Rewards These rewards are earned by proposing blocks on the Ethereum protocol. EL rewards include:
  • Transaction Priority Tips: Tips offered for processing transactions quickly.
  • MEV (Maximal Extractable Value): Rewards generated from optimized block execution.

In the current Ethereum version, Execution Layer rewards are only accessible when a validator exits the network. However, in future upgrades, users will be able to manually claim EL rewards.

When claiming EL rewards, the system automatically claims rewards from all validators associated with the same withdrawal address and sends them to the specified withdrawal address.

Withdrawal Address

The withdrawal address is determined during the initial staking process and cannot be changed later. It is crucial for users to securely store important information related to accessing the withdrawal address, such as the seed phrase and secret key. These should be kept in a safe and secure location to prevent loss or unauthorized access.
